Soumia Lomri and Emile Grac realized their dream in 2008: to have their own fruit plantation in Morocco. The couple found their homeland. Between the port city of Essaouira and Marrakech, they purchased 88 hectares that met their requirements. On one-third of the land, they planted tangerine trees, while on smaller areas, they cultivate oranges and olives. They are well-versed in the world of agriculture: in France, their country of origin, Grac and Lomri used to sell aromatic plants.

From the beginning, the couple prioritized conscientious agriculture, which is part of their production philosophy: rich soil and sustainable work. Grac and Lomri’s Nadorcott mandarins are a bright orange color. But above all, their aroma is wonderfully balanced between sweetness and acidity, satisfying all tastes. The mandarins are generally seedless and easy to peel.

The region’s climate suits the fruits: summers are hot, and the nights in autumn and winter are cool, conditions that lead to the bright orange color of the skin. Some of the tangerine trees are covered with nets at Grac and Lomri’s plantation. They protect the fruits from adverse weather conditions like wind and hail.

In early March, Odile Bouron, the head of operations at the French branch of BioTropic, and her colleague Willem Bakker, will visit Grac and Lomri to assess the harvest. The season will likely last until early April.
